On a very big creosote job at the moment and it's a case of finding the most cheapest clothes available, wear for a couple of days and throw away!!!

HenryG got a reaction from Haydn Gleave Fencing in Opinions on RG 30 Kubota units
When I was looking for a base dumper I was advised to avoid the yanmar cr30 due to the bottom rollers being smaller than the rg30 and that the chassis isn't as strong, if it's not reinforced it will buckle with a knocker on it..... Got the rg30 nothing flash but does everything that I've asked of it!! No complaints here!!

if you come across a wasp nest put some vinegar on you and they will not come near you then you can carry on driving posts!!

HenryG got a reaction from Charliehub in post and rail on real hard ground
All depends what you are driving into- if ground is chalk, solid clay mixed gravel etc you will be able to pinch bar a hole and soak it with water min 3 times so it's all soft around the hole the post will drive if pointed and so long as it's larch, if it's rock no option other than rock spoke or the hydraulic breaker, best tip on hard ground is to make sure the posts you are using are red wood!! A big help!

HenryG got a reaction from Charliehub in Suffolk post and rail?
Yes posts are already notched, end the rails as you go with a chainsaw as they will vary in length slightly, cut 3 the same length and end both ends with out moving the rail this way the ends will line up with each other, use a bill hook if you need to trim the ends to fit in the posts...... If you are using 6x3" posts ensure they are notched before treatment otherwise if mortaced after treatment they will be white inside and will need to be re treated, with the rails ensure the bark is under the rail and the 2 'white' sides of the rail are facing up.... I have pics of that's a bit confusing......

HenryG got a reaction from Haydn Gleave Fencing in Post and Rail- Rail spacing
If we are working with horses we always keep the rails flush with top of post just in case horse decides to jump over there is less chance of it catching itself on a corner of a post, unless the client requests different??

No I always do top rail first to make sure it looks right with the ground then all the other rails follow

2 rail you want 22 inches 3 rail will be either 15 or 18 inches (depending on fence height) and 4 rail is 12 inches, measurement should be from top of rail to top of rail hope that helps
