Adam
Just wondering what everyone does with the off cut rubbish wire and old wire ?
Frontrowfencing
Put it all in the scrap skip and when it's full, take it in to the scrap yard. Quite boring I am afraid.
HenryG
Tend to leave on site due to the waste carrying license, been a few companies receiving fines down this way recently.
Adam
Does your scrapyard take it then do they do you get scrap price for it or do they pay less?
Frontrowfencing
We have a big 12 yard skip on my families farm, we run out of their yard, so any scrap goes in their and my old man usually takes it in when full, I think he just gets scrap price for it, but other stuff goes in as well, we get of cuts from palisade etc, plus all the farm scrap. Morgy
Over the last few years we have noticed more and more contractors are using machines like the Quick fencer or Pro fencer! This combined with Larger rolls helps reduce off cuts(scrap). We have also known people who use off cuts for tree guards etc.
James Corbett
Any bits we get left over collect then do a scrap run all helps for a xmas drink.
Frontrowfencing
Where and when is the drink james, sounds good to me. Is that an offer to all memebrs of the forum. Regarding waste, we generally we have very little left over, a few tails and the odd bit, but any bits left on the roll, we generally keep and roll over to the next job. Goaty
Use as we go get very little wastage, but it goes to scrap.
Charliehub
Like most we have a scrap corner in the yard, don't have too much new off cuts but if we are taking down old we roll it up and flatten it with the tractor bucket you can soon build up a lot.. then when we get a wet day we take it down the yard only trouble is now it has to go through the bank so no cash .. We also have a waste carrier license well worth it as we do a fair bit of garden fencing and generally bring the old stuff back to the yard to skip running so close to Birmingham/Covenrty we get pulled quite often so have to be all legal.. stevew
We have waste carriers licence always keep a copy in the vehicle. Don't get a lot of off cuts tend to join everything with strain rite crimps, all the old wire we take out goes in the scrap skip, wait till the price is up give them a ring and they come and empty it, keeps the customers happy as the site is left tidy
RED STAG
We try to keep waist to a minimum but we do have to remove old fences usually end up with a great pile all folded up in the corner of the yard load it all up once a year what a job that is and of to the scrap yard. We have a exemption certificate for carrying agricultural waist think this covers me.
Goaty
We save the odd food tin can lid and can. Put in old staples until full then insert lid. Bend edges down with hammer add it to the scrap pile. Put small wire offcuts and old long nails etc through the hole in an old metal 25ltr engine/hydraulic oil drum. Send it all with scrap, takes a bit of effort initially but you don't cause punctures, accidents or have to keep picking them up again. If you leave drum outside remember to puncture the bottom to drain rainwater.
