D A MacDougall Fencing Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 I am needing new inline chan strainers my old ones are worn out . Was looking at the nz stranright pullers does anyone one here use them . I usually use Haynes puller are they better our much the same. Any other option would be interesting .cheers Damien
premnayloon Posted January 3, 2015 Report Posted January 3, 2015 The straight rite ones I have do not turn 360 degrees at the handle clamp ends , if you know what I mean a real disappointment for me I use Donald ones, I just feel the £100 plus price when I can get the Donald ones for around half that is a no brainer
D A MacDougall Fencing Posted January 3, 2015 Author Report Posted January 3, 2015 Yep no what u mean. £ 100 must off had my old ones longer than than I thought think I paid £50 .cheers
stevew Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 We are on the Tornado forum, have a look in the Tornado contractors pack they supplied, in the (extras) section is a list of tools available from your host.
tepapa Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 The straight rite ones I have do not turn 360 degrees at the handle clamp ends , if you know what I mean a real disappointment for me I use Donald ones, I just feel the £100 plus price when I can get the Donald ones for around half that is a no brainer You can get a swivel grab head on the handle, part no FCS00600, £75 ex VAT, could be cheaper if you go through tornado. (You may have to wait for it to be imported if theres none in the country) I use all strainrite gear with no problems.
tepapa Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 Go to www.rural-fence.com.au, they have a spring grip wire strainer (its like a modern monkey strainer). There wasn't a UK importer yet (hint to tornado) but they are expensive. $299 dollars each, shipping for 1 set $75 by sea, $145 by air, import duty $20 (cheaper for more sets). They were to expensive for me, so i cant tell what there like. Maybe someone here has a set and can give us a review.
Frontrowfencing Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 I use strain rite and love them, got the swivel head on. Can't compare them to Haynes as never used them, but I do like the ones I have. Maybe a bit more expensive, but I have had mine 6 years now and still work fine. Going to last a long time, you can just get new spring kits for a few quid for them.
Charliehub Posted January 4, 2015 Report Posted January 4, 2015 We use Haynes and never had any problems and my sets are prob 15+ years old also have a few sets of Donald ones like you say cheaper but more awkward to use as they don't run along the chain as well. Can't coment on strainrite as we don't have any but looking at utube would say very similar to Haynes.
D A MacDougall Fencing Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 Yep think aye will give Haynes a second chance my ones must off been a bad batch as the cam that holds the wire has worn out making is slip and the rivets are coming apart there only 8+ years old.
Robbell Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Go to www.rural-fence.com.au, they have a spring grip wire strainer (its like a modern monkey strainer). D A MacDougall Fencing Posted January 7, 2015 Author Report Posted January 7, 2015 Oz pullers look like the pros choice .
tepapa Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Oz pullers look like the pros choice .WE are meant to be pro's in the UK! lolI recon of we had enough people interested we could but in a multi order and import them ourselves, get them a bit cheaper?
D A MacDougall Fencing Posted January 7, 2015 Author Report Posted January 7, 2015 job for tornado . If it as good as it looks it will shift quality tools are worth there weight in gold
Robbell Posted January 17, 2015 Report Posted January 17, 2015 I spoke to Malcolm @ Tornado and flagged this thread up to him. he's going to look into it
RED STAG Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 I have had Haynes fail to catch properly when under tension and its fairly painful when they slip of. Use Donald as well but strainright for my first choice every time.
premnayloon Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 I was on the phone to Peter comrie at tornado today, and he said that unfortunately tornado will not be stocking the oz pullers,
D A MacDougall Fencing Posted March 18, 2015 Author Report Posted March 18, 2015 They look gid bit will prob be expensive
Frontrowfencing Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 I have a friend coming over from aus fairly soo, I could possibly ask him to bring a set over if he can fit it in his baggage allowance. If anyone is intersted.
D A MacDougall Fencing Posted March 18, 2015 Author Report Posted March 18, 2015 Yep give me a call Al be good for that
Robbell Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 he could need a bigger bag, id try a set have tornado made any progress yet?
SimonE Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 I will ask Malc where he is with this in the morning Rob
tepapa Posted March 18, 2015 Report Posted March 18, 2015 If TORNADO don't/can't/want to import the ozzy pullers, i'll import a batch for us all, I made contact with them last year, and should get us a better price for multiple orders,
Malcolm Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Hi all, As we have so much interest in the tool, please leave it with me and I'll see what we can do. Watch this space!
Post Driver Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 They do look to work well but it is a demo in the open with a wire at waist height. They won't make life much easier when on your knees in the bottom of a wet hedge. Also they look to have quite a few springs which is something else to go wrong and then need fixing. Be interesting to see where they pitch the price.
premnayloon Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I am definitely up for a set of these, but Peter was pretty adamant that tornado would not be following up any interest.
