NMFENCING
Anyone have any ideas/designs for a half round posts post twister? I never use half rounds, but have to on a job coming up... So need a way of twisting them. The normal square twister I have won't do the job.
HenryG
We do lots of half round are you using Cundey peeled or machined posts? If you are using machined halves you will find you are un able to drive them by machine, they will go all over the place, or snap! We use a fork twister for ours simple and easy to use
tepapa
Put the wire on the round side, then if they twist you always have a flat surface to staple to. Only farmers try to staple to the flat side. Unless their pointed on both sides (round and flat) they will all drive out of plum towards the round side so you have to start with them falling away from vertical so they will spring up straight. Stay away from them IMO and get full rounds.
NMFENCING
Sorry, should've said its for post and rail, peeled half round posts, and half round rails. Don't get me wrong, I really don't want to use it, but the fences around it are akready half rounds and the client isn't budging.
HenryG
The bigger the post diameter the easier you will find it!!
Frontrowfencing
Chop the point of the Bottom if they are pointed. Point send them one way ore the other as tepapa says.
HenryG
I use the same twister for 5x3 sawn and 1/2 round posts.
tepapa
How about a long handled breaker bar/felling leaver, I don't have one so I couldn't try it out for you but I was thinking of getting one for post twisting purposes.
MikeW
its really easy to make a fork twister, for half rounds ive got one that is flared/tapered so it will accommodate a half round or a 5/6x3" but have another non tapered one for square sawn p+r and several others for different sized gate posts. Have made them all from scrap really. If you do make one put a cranked handle on it, it makes it easier to twist from where you are standing and don't make it too heavy! NMFENCING
I haven't tried my 5x3 one yet... Just assumed it wouldn't fit. But if that doesn't, the a breaking/felling bar may just be genius. Thanks for the suggestions.
