Ben Fencin
I have two rocks bits, one with bullet teeth and the other is a step auger, both carbide teeth. It will slowly drill granite, but doesn't want to touch Basalt rock. Should I be using water?https://youtu.be/2dXUbrEcmDs
D A MacDougall Fencing
Do u think water will help cut better our just save ur carbide teeth.
Ben Fencin
Honestly I have no clue. I know with the basalt rock, after not a lot of progress it gets really hot. The project last winter that had all the basalt is what made me try the pneumatic rock drill. Works well but limited on hole size.
D A MacDougall Fencing
Doe u think it would help if u drill to just before the limit of the rock drill then punch in a couple holes with the pneumatic drill fill up with water and go back to the rock drill . That mite help keep it cool and help the rock drill make progress, will be a lot of extra work but if it works least the job done right
Ben Fencin
My concern would be bit catching on those holes if I'm understanding what you're saying. If you're going to have the pneumatic (or hydraulic) rock drill on site then I'd probably just drill the series of holes and break it overnight with Dexpan blasting alternative. http://www.dexpan.com/dexpan-how-to-use-dexpan-non-explosive-controlled-demolition-agent-breaking.aspx I have some, but haven't tried it out yet.
