What's the go with picking up material .we do lots of work for existing customers with no quoting but fixed hourly or m rates . So when were on site they often go ...while your here can you... The materials for the work arnt on site or possibly not at the yard so have to pick them up what do you charge for this , hourly ?

Depends entirely on the client for me, got some bloody good ones that we do a lot for no quoting just trust and common work on agreed £/m, I'm happy to collect gratis if it keeps us in there. However,I have found some clients with take the proverbial and are more focuses on cost and not relationship building and so I charge then a heavy £/hr. They think they're saving by being clever like that but they end up paying more or can find someone else that will stand it.

That's how it is with us really but can't do to much for nothing .

Very true and something I'm appreciating more every year that rates need to be what they need to be and not to fill the diary up with work that doesn't pay to then turn away work that would.

I usually charge what my usual supplier charges for delivery flat rate.

That's a fair way. you won't get rich but will cover fuel and a bit of down .time mind you if we priced our work the same way a couple of builder mates price there's I'd only have to work half the year
