loneraver
Just wondering if any of you guys have had problems with excessive rusting of fencing/sheep netting just on wires which are wrapped around or touching a fence strainer post. Strange that if it is not touching the post it is ok
oregonfarmfencer
Is it possible the galvanization on the wire was damaged somehow during install?
Rancher
is the problem happening on metal posts or wood? could it be that the wire in contact with the post has become a sacrificial anode for the rest of the fence?
loneraver
I don't think the galv was damaged. The post are wooden, after googling 'sacrificial anode' i don't think that can happen on wood posts. I have been thinkingabout this over the weekend and noticed that the rust is only on a few newly purchased post. The older posts seem fine. West Fork Fence
Contact with some wood preservatives will cause corrosion. ACQ is especially bad about eating fasteners/steel. https://www.fpl.fs.fed.us/documnts/pdf1987/baker87a.pdf
loneraver
Excellent article. Many thanks It would seem it is the fence post as i have two different suppliers post and only one supplier has rusted. And from reading your posted article, reminded me that the post that has rusted wire on them were very damp when purchase and i installed them almost straight away
